Will you see me after the dark is gone?
I saw a bright new light along the street.
Where we once used to hide forever done.
Devoured whole by pride of modernity.
Dark nights, black rooms of devilish joys
Where I cried and smiled when covered in its mantle
Playing and terrified of its power to the unknown
Also where mom lulled us with a canticle
And we stayed scared, and we grew bold
Despite the grim smiles we saw in the shadows.
Lit up by the sparks of clever minds who sold
Bewildered stories told as we grew slow.
And velvet skies of blue and black set a stage for us all
Where mocking stars danced in circles jumping left and right
But with the theater gone and the stage alight
The stars have left us – or did they fall?
Even the fields from out and far are now brighter than before
Chasing away the small stars in shape of bugs
Even the sounds even the noise of the animals of yore
Whisper faintly as the light builds a wall in shape of fog.
This is now safe, this is now better
Say the ones scared inside
They praise in awe to the blinding sun
Claiming the dark must surely abide
I ask the moon, if she can see,
Why her dark gaze doesn’t cover all the streets
She drips a tear, her sadness breaking
Of the people now rejecting her gloaming sheet.
Inside the tents, of children’s worlds
Escaping light that now the older ones control
Making their fates, always unbreaking
Showing sneering faces to the light that chains them.
The light forgets it needs the dark, as a partner for a dance.
Where they prance with the music in the middle of their loop
And the children, cats and bugs put a stop to all their clocks
And they watch this dirty dance as they all creep and snoop.
But the light is there, and the dark is gone
And I’m scared more of what I see.
The other me, the one I’m from
Laying asleep from the streetlight above me.
